Bharat Cancer Genome Atlas (BCGA) , Bharat Cancer Genome Grid (BCG2)
- Prof.Sathyanarayana Gummadi Biotechnology
The Bharat Cancer Genome Atlas (BCGA) is a pioneering compendium of genetic variants representing the unique genomic landscape of cancers in India. By bridging the gap in genomic data, BCGA empowers healthcare systems and researchers to create targeted solutions that improve outcomes for millions of cancer patients.
We have released a first-of-its-kind open access cancer genome database covering breast cancer, paediatric leukaemia, colorectal and pancreatic cancers and together account for a substantial share of mortality in the country.
Development of the Bharat Cancer Genome Atlas (BCGA) is poised to be a comprehensive genomic database which will not only deepen our scientific understanding of the unique molecular landscape of cancers prevalent in India but also provide the essential foundation required to facilitate the development of targeted therapies, enable personalized treatment strategies, and foster the creation of more effective early detection methods specifically tailored for the Indian population. The open-access nature of the BCGA is a core strength, designed to democratize access to this vital information, thereby empowering researchers to make new discoveries, enabling clinicians to provide more precise care, and allowing patients and their families to engage more fully in their health journey.
The Bharat Cancer Genome Grid (BCG2) is a clinician-centric national initiative designed to accelerate the responsible adoption of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) in routine oncology practice. Conceived as the clinical translation arm of the Bharat Cancer Genome Atlas (BCGA), BCG2 empowers oncologists with the frameworks, expertise, and collaborative platforms required to turn genomic data into meaningful patient care decisions
