The awards for the Faculty at IIT Madras are given based on excellence in teaching, research and development.
The Young Faculty Recognition Award introduced in 2006 and given annually, is awarded to young faculty members in order to encourage excellence in teaching with high quality research. There are two awards for faculty in Engineering Departments and one award in the Departments of Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences and Management Studies.
The Institute Research & Development Awards (IRDA) was introduced in 2013-14 to encourage excellence in research and development. The 3 categories are Lifetime Achievement, Mid-Career and Junior Level.
The Srimathi Marti Annapurna Gurunath Award for Excellence in Teaching is endowed by our alumnus, Prof. Marti Subrahmanyam (Stern School of Business, New York University).
