Press Release
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) BS Degree Programs have opened admissions for the 2026 academic cycle, with 31st May 2026 being the last date to apply. Designed to make high-quality IIT education accessible to a wider and more diverse learner base, the programs are open to anyone who has completed Class 12, with no age restrictions.
Offered as four distinct programs, namely BS in Data Science and Applications, BS in Electronic Systems, BS in Management and Data Science, and BS in Aeronautics and Space Technology, the degrees are uniquely structured to be pursued either as standalone qualifications or alongside a regular college degree.
The programs are delivered primarily online, with in-person examinations conducted at centres across India to ensure academic rigour and flexibility. Learners can progress at their own pace and benefit from multiple exit options, including Certificate, Diploma, or Degree pathways depending on their academic and career goals.
Students and parents interested in applying can visit the official portal for more details. With the application deadline approaching on 31st May 2026, interested learners can apply through https://study.iitm.ac.in
Speaking about the programs, Prof. Prathap Haridoss, Dean (Academic Courses), IIT Madras, said, “These BS Degree Programs are designed to give students flexibility without compromising on quality. We are seeing a growing need for learners to build strong foundations in data, technology, and interdisciplinary thinking, regardless of their primary degree. This program allows students to access IIT Madras-level learning while pursuing other academic or professional paths, thereby significantly enhancing their career opportunities.”
‘FUTURE READY SKILLS’
As career pathways continue to evolve and industry expectations expand, IIT Madras is enabling learners to build future-ready skills through a flexible academic model that removes barriers related to geography, conventional admission routes, and rigid learning structures.
Unlike traditional engineering programs, admission to the BS Degree Programs does not require clearing the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Instead, students can enter through a qualifier process, making IIT Madras education accessible to a significantly larger student community across the country.
A highlight of the BS Degree Programs is their compatibility with other undergraduate courses. Students pursuing BCom, BSc, BBA, or Engineering degrees can simultaneously enrol in the IIT Madras BS programs, allowing them to strengthen their analytical, technical, and decision-making capabilities alongside their core academic discipline.
This dual-degree flexibility is increasingly relevant in today’s employment landscape, where organisations are seeking graduates who can combine domain expertise with strong data-driven and interdisciplinary problem-solving skills.
With tens of thousands of learners already enrolled from across India, the BS Degree Programs reflect IIT Madras’ vision of democratizing access to world-class education at scale. To support inclusivity, the Institute also offers fee support of up to 75 per cent for eligible students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring financial limitations do not become a barrier to learning.
The curriculum for the programs has been developed in consultation with industry and academic experts, with a strong focus on practical learning, real-world applications, and emerging technologies. Students gain exposure to areas such as data analysis, business decision-making, electronic systems, and aerospace technologies, preparing them for rapidly evolving career opportunities.
