Biocompatibility is modelled as a surface phenomenon. There is a considerable interest in surface modification of implants to tailor the surface properties such as texture, wettability, and chemistry to enhance the implant's biocompatibility. Amongst the various surface modification techniques of biomaterials, laser surface texturing has emerged as one of the cleanest, most precise and reproducible technologies. In the proposed study, TiO2-ZnO composite thin film coatings will be synthesized and characterized for various biomedical applications. Subsequently, laser surface texturing will be used to texture the coating. The Biocompatibility pertaining to the cytotoxicity, corrosion resistance, and antibacterial properties of the laser textured TiO2-ZnO coatings on implant surface will be investigated.
