Details

The spread of fire over thin fuels is dependent on the fuel characteristics, such as physico-
chemical properties and geometry, as well as the ambient conditions under which it occurs. By

controlling the ambient oxygen concentrations, the variation of flame spread rate over fuels of
planar and cylindrical geometry are observed upto the point of extinction. Flame spread data
are gathered from the cellulosic fuel variants to produce distinct flammability maps which are
collectively compared to identify the most flammable fuel variants. Identifying the relationship
of a fuel’s rich flammability limit with the rate of spread of its diffusion flame is the objective
of this parametric study.
