Details
A closed curve in an abstract space explains a curious shift in the phase of a light beam in an interference experiment. This phase shift, known as the Pancharatnam phase of light is an example of geometrical phase of light. Experiments to observe it will be reviewed and a new way of observing the nonlinearity of the Pancharatnam phase will be described.
