Turbulent cavitating flow is numerically challenging to model. Usually, full cavitation model/barotropic state law with turbulence modelling is reported in the literature. This approach requires prior knowledge of bubble size/bubble number density present in the liquid. This limitation is eliminated in the dynamic cavitation model (DCM), where the pressure-dependent bubble size is estimated at each time step. In the present work, the superior ability of dynamic cavitation model (DCM) over Schnerr and Sauer (SS) model is evaluated for simulating the dynamics of cloud cavitation in a venturi device with unsteady RANS. Thereafter, the performance of DCM with different turbulence models (URANS, DES and LES) is studied by comparing the time-averaged axial velocity and void fraction plots, phase-averaged images, velocity vector plots and wavelet analysis of instantaneous pressure, mass transfer rate, void fraction and velocity. From the research, it is understood that DES with DCM is the best suitable model in predicting the turbulent-cavitating characteristics. KEY WORDS: Turbulent cavitating flow; dynamic cavitation model (DCM), Schnerr and Sauer (SS) model; cloud cavitation; venturi device; URANS; DES; LES.
