In 1996, IIT Madras set up a Strategic Planning Committee, and the Board instituted the Strategic Management Project to build up internal capability for change. A strategic plan, outlining recommendations and action plans for implementing the strategy, is drawn up for a period. The Strategic Plan enunciates IIT Madras’ aim of being recognised as a global leader in research and education.
