Details
I will very briefly describe how aerosols have led to lower contributions of India to global climate change and the health impacts of the aerosols over India. I will briefly describe how we obtain surface PM2.5 (particulate matter of diameter less than 2.5 micrometers) from satellite data. Then, I will describe the health impacts of PM2.5 as measured by premature mortality. I will highlight the contributions of PM in non-urban India. Lastly, I will provide rough estimates of the measures needed to meet national ambient air quality standards in India from the changes observed during the covid-19 shutdowns and lockdowns.
