Dr. Gireesh Ramachandran, Principal Specialist, Renewables Certification, Energy Systems, DNV. Belongs to the Floating wind section since 2013. Main focus is on loads and coupled analysis of floating wind turbines and Project Certification (bottom fixed and floating wind turbines). At DNV, heavily involved in research, Joint Industry Projects, development of service documents such as Standards and Recommended Practices, in particular on floating wind turbines.
Having more than 22 years of experience with wind turbines, out of which more than 14 years with floating wind turbines. In the previous roles, starting from C-WET (now NIWE) on type certification of wind turbines, to a Ph.D researcher at DTU Wind on floating wind turbines, to a Post Doctoral Researcher at National Wind Technology Centre, NREL on floating wind turbines before starting at DNV in 2013.
Holds a Ph.D in Numerical modelling of Floating wind turbines from DTU Wind, Denmark. Basically a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Cochin University of Science and Technology and Masters in Machine Design from IIT Madras.
Topic Intro:
The talk will deal with introduction on offshore wind turbines. Starting from site conditions to detailed design to wind turbines. Generic introduction will also cover different support structures including the latest technology on floating structures. The talk will be from a certifier’s point of view rather than a designer’s point of view. Finally, the talk will also touch upon job opportunities.
