One-dimensional nanostructures have received a lot of attention because of their intriguing and distinctive electrical, mechanical, optical, thermal, and magnetic properties. Due to their large aspect ratio and ability to achieve percolation threshold at lower concentrations, composites made up of 1D nanomaterials can be used for multi-functional applications such as electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and energy storage. Metallic nanowires (MNWs) with tunable conductivity, strong mechanical flexibility, and high aspect ratio make excellent candidates for multi-functional applications. For EMI shielding, composites of MNWs with several polymer substrates, including polystyrene, polyaniline, polyamide, and others, have been reported. Despite this, high MNW content in composites and sophisticated production techniques raise costs and prevent industrial scaling [1]. The EMI shielding effectiveness of composites is further diminished by the loss in electrical conductivity brought on by the junction resistance of cross-linked nanowires. This can be mitigated by constructing hierarchical 1D nanostructures which remains a challenge for multi-functional applications. The present study aims to investigate the structural, morphological, and EMI shielding behavior of eco-friendly composites made with silver nanowires (AgNWs) [2]. Some preliminary results regarding the fabricated films will be discussed.
