The lithium-ion battery (LIB) is a commercially successful energy storage system with superior energy and power densities. The cathode used in a LIB significantly decides its performance, cheaper and high-voltage cathodes are essential. Among the cathode materials, vanadium-based polyanionic compounds are attractive options due to their high voltage. To enhance the electrochemical properties of one such vanadium phosphate LiVPO4F (LVPF/C) a sol-gel method with optimised polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and lauric acid was adopted. The LVPF/C-X cathodes (X = 25, 35, and 45 wt. % PTFE) have a discharge capacity of ∼85.4 (∼7), ∼113.2 (∼84.1), ∼100.1 (∼14.2) mAh/g at 0.1C (10C) rates, respectively, when cycled between 3.0–4.5 V vs. Li/Li+.
