In recent days, a hybrid coupling between the potential and viscous models has been developed to accurately interpret the wave structure interaction problem that can approximate physical problems better with less computational power. Domain decomposition (DD) or functional decomposition (FD) approaches are commonly used to classify the coupling between models. The aim of this research is to validate the performance of OpenFOAM-based solvers foamStar (DD technique) and SWENSE (FD approach) in coupling with the solver HOS-NWT for the potential theory approach. The coupled models are validated for breaking and non-breaking focused wave interactions with the fixed cylinder, and moving cylinder interaction with the focusing wave. Further, to model the mooring lines, the CFD solver was coupled with open source MoorDyn. The performance of the three coupled solvers was investigated for moored floating SPAR (offshore wind energy Substructure) interaction with regular and irregular sea states.
