Muscles are responsible for the movement of the human body. Muscle contraction generates the force to perform a task. Fatigue is a condition that occurs due to the prolonged or sustained activation of a muscle. It is a condition in which muscle fails to provide the required force to continue an activity. The most commonly used method for muscle fatigue study is Surface Electromyography (sEMG). These signals are the arithmetic summation of motor unit action potential trains acquired from the muscle of interest during isometric and dynamic contraction. This results in nonstationary, nonlinear, multicomponent, complex sEMG signals. The conventional time and frequency domain methods fail to characterize the signal. Time Frequency (TF) domain analysis are found to be capable of characterizing the properties of the signal. This research aims at recording of sEMG signals in isometric and dynamic contraction and analyse it using the TF methods to characterise the fatiguing conditions. In this work, the Synchrosqueezed wavelet Transform (SST) with Morlet and Bump wavelet is used for the decomposition of signal in TF domain. In this seminar, the signal acquisition protocols, analysis of muscle fatigue in the TF domain using SST and key results are discussed in detail.
