Details
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is one of the least understood cardiovascular conditions associated with elevated pulmonary arterial pressure. Over the past five years, we initiated a collaborative research effort to understand the disease progression together with associated changes in mechanics and hemodynamics of the pulmonary vasculature and the right heart with a view to improve therapeutic treatments. The seminar will first present a brief clinical background, ex vivo experimental test, in vivo mechanical/hemodynamic assessment, and dissipative thermodynamic modeling of the main pulmonary artery. The second part of the seminar, will present a series of collaborative effort to understand and model how three compartments (main arteries, distal vasculature, and right ventricle) interact with each other during the disease progression with current pharmacological treatments.
