I examine Indian sex blogosphere as source of sex enculturation in the present times. Enculturation is a sociological term. It refers to the process in which one gets acquainted to one’s culture, values, behavior, norms and customs. These days blogosphere generates newer meanings linked to sex work in a significant way. It is instrumental in rehabilitating the notion that sex work is solely a paid contract between two individuals. Sex blogs now treat sex work as a network of symbolism, consumables, bodily narratives, pleasure trips, and lifestyles.
Sex blogosphere also reorients traditional notions tied to sex. In this scheme of things, sex also emerges as a lifestyle negotiation. For example, blogosphere has immense space for a discussion concerning women’s sexuality. Now, women feel emboldened in claiming their sexuality via blogosphere. This is evident from the blogs on women’s lifestyle magazines such as New Women, Cosmopolitan India, Femina India. That said, sex blogosphere is not free from the negative weight of tradition.
