Department of Computer Science & Engineering

Conceived in 1973 with the acquisition of an IBM System/370 (one of the most powerful computers in India at that time), the Department of Computer Science and Engineering now offers several attractive industry-sponsored Fellowships for outstanding PhD scholars, as well as support for participation in top-ranking international conferences. According to a 2014 Brown University study, IIT Madras was the fifth largest contributor of faculty members to computer science programs in U.S universities, including MIT, Stanford and Yale.

About the Department

The Computer Science and Engineering department offers an overall course structure that provides a solid foundation for all basic parts of traditional (OS / Networks / DB) and modern (ML / Data Mining) aspects of computing. The department not only has exciting placements and internships but also provides opportunities for students interested in research to intern with professors in the department or in top Universities in the world.
