
IIT-Madras students bag 123 offers on day 1 of placement

CHENNAI: In a bright start to the placement season amid the pandemic,
IIT Madras students bagged 123 job offers from 22 companies on the first
session of day 1.
The placement interviews are being conducted online due to the Covid-19
pandemic this year. Last year, 102 offers were made by 20 companies at
the end of the first session.
The big recruiters of this year's first session include Microsoft (19 offers),
Texas Instruments (12 offers), Bajaj Auto (10 offers), Isro (10 offers),
Alphonso (9 offers) and Qualcomm (8 offers). For the second session on Day 1, the institute scheduled 24 companies with 48 job profiles including GE and Wipro.
C S Shankar Ram, advisor (training and placement), IIT Madras, said, "We have exceeded the number of offers made in the 1.1 session from the previous academic year. I am optimistic that a similar trend would continue over the next few days."
A total of 1,443 students have registered for placements for the 2020-21 season. The total number of companies registered for phase I of placements is 256. They will be recruiting for a total of 472 profiles. As many as 71 startups registered this year. IIT
Madras students have received 182 pre-placement offers which also an increase compared to 170 offers last year. However, the premier institute has not mentioned about the internal offers in the release. When enquired, officials said they would get clear picture at the end of phase 1 of the placement drive.
