This study presents an account of predication, especially in the domain of non-verbal predication in select Dravidian languages, i.e. Telugu and Kuʔi, which are spoken majorly in Andhra Pradesh. This research has three primary objectives: i) to identify and describe the types/kinds of non-verbal predication in both Telugu and Kuʔi, ii) to provide a theoretical analysis of the non-verbal predication through the Minimalist Lens (Chomsky, 1995; 2000), and iii) to offer a crosslinguistic explanation for variations that get encoded through non-verbal predication. The existing studies on the syntactic representation of the non-verbal predication (Carnie, 1995; Heggie, 1988; Moro, 1997; Heycock, 1992) seem inadequate to accommodate the wide variations encountered in such constructions, especially in Dravidian languages. Therefore, through this study, we are going to examine the description of the non-verbal predicates in both Telugu and Kuʔi. Further, we are proposing a novel syntactic representation of these constructions which can account for the two intra-Dravidian languages and can provide an explanation for the language variation which exists between the languages.
