Abstract: Reservoir lithofacies classification and analysis have played a significant role in understanding a reservoir among geophysicists and geologists for decades. Facies analysis and classification have been a crucial approach among geoscientists for many years. The deposition with distinctive lithological characteristics, including structure, composition, and compaction, is considered facies. The utilization of seismic facies classification has been increasing over the years in seismic interpretation, and it is essential in reservoir characterization
This research study aims to classify the lithofacies using the integrated methodology of multi-point geostatistics for a sandstone reservoir and identify the hydrocarbon saturated zones. We have developed an innovative/integrated methodology by combining existing seismic interpretation tools with multi-point geostatistics. This integrated method was applied to real seismic data where velocities and density had almost similar values for different lithologies.
Our work is essential for identifying the accurate lithologies to estimate prospect zone, identification of ideal drilling locations for production and reservoir development activities. The methodology is expected to maximize confidence in the identification of hydrocarbons zone as well as different lithologies. This research is expected to wide usage multi-point geostatistics in the oil/gas industry for reservoir characterization.
