Course Name: AM5650 : Nonlinear Vibrations
Description: Modeling of physical dynamical problems ? examples with reference to civil, mechanical and aerospace applications. Review of linear structural dynamical systems ? single, multiple and infinite degree of freedom systems, Lagrange?s equations, time domain and frequency domain analyses, numerical techniques for solving linear dynamics problems, discretization of continuous systems. Introduction to nonlinear dynamical systems ? phase portraits, fixed points, linear stability analysis, types of bifurcations, chaotic vibrations, Poincare sections and maps, Lyapunov exponents, classical nonlinear oscillators. Approximate analytical techniquesperturbation methods, method of multiple scales, method of harmonic balance, Computational aspects, Nonlinearity and randomness in structural dynamical systems.
