Description: Analysis of stresses and strains in cartesian and polra co-ordinates, Equilibrium and compatibility conditions, Fundamental laws of Elasticity and Plasticity, Generalized plane stress and plane strain relations, St. Venant's principle. Solution of Boundary Value Problems in a two-dimensional elastic continuum, Specialization to problems of infinite domain, Stress oncentrations around holes, specialization to problems of semi-infinite domains, Computation of contact stresses for two bodies in line contact. Solution of Boundary value Problems for prismatic sections, Torsion of prismatic sections, Membrane analogy for thin walled and multiply connected sections, Bemas on elastic foundations. Yield and failure criteria for solids, Hardening rules of plasticity, Damage and Fracture of materials, Crack driving forces and Fracture toughness.
