Course Name: EE5060 : Communication Techniques

Description: Digital Telephony: Time and Space switching, multi-stage switching, local loop and trunk signaling, switch architecture, network architecture, digital trunk network. Data communications: Baseband data communications, circuit vs packet switching, layered network architecture, framing and ARQ, medium access protocols for LANS. Fiber-optic link analysis: Thermal noise and shot noise, signal-to-noise ratio calculations for detection of intensity modulated signals, bit error rate, power budget, rise-time budget. Microwave communication systems: Point-to-point microwave systems, cellular systems, propagation aspects in microwave cellular systems, Rayleigh Fading, access techniques, cell planning based on Signal to-interference ratio, diversity technique to combat fading. RF link - AnalysisThermal noise model, noise figure calculations for RF chain, antenna patterns for Yagi and parabolic dish antennas, link analysis from transmitter to receiver.
